I wait for them every year starting in the beginning of May. Sometimes I don't see them until June but I wouldn't want to miss them. They are so special. This is a female, you can tell from the shape of the tail. Her wing span is 4 inches. She will only live 7 to 10 days, laying 100-300 eggs under leaves in groups of 4 to 7 ensuring the next generation.
I looked up and there she was clinging to the shutter by my back door. A little bit of a blessing for the day. I don't know how to say thank you for visiting...except to nod to her beauty and close the door softly.
